Sungei Rd Laksa Review by Big El Lion

Sungei Road Laksa is a famous laksa stall in Singapore. It has been around for more than half a century and today Big El Lion is going to show you some pictures of this famous laksa stall near Kelantan Lane. Hop on!

Big El Lion quickly grabbed a nearest seat to the stall and asked his human to queue for the food. What a clever NICI Lion plush he is.

Sungei Road Laksa has been selling laksa more than 50 years ago in Singapore. The laksa is still cooked by the fore-founders as you can see, but they are no longer located at Sungei Road. They have changed their location a few times and Sungei Road laksa is now at Jalan Berseh, a little 1o mins walk away from Bugis mrt station.

Sungei Road Laksa won its fame in Singapore because they use charcoal to heat the pot of laksa gravy. Charcoal emits a very fragrant smell that will add to the taste of the laksa, thats why Sungei Road laksa taste differently from other laksa stalls in Singapore where no one else could reproduce.

Big El Lion proudly introduces one of the most famous hawker food in Singapore - Sungei Road Laksa

The laksa serving is small but it is only $2 a bowl. In Singapore, it is very hard to find such a cheap bowl of laksa anywhere else.

Sungei Road Laksa's best feature is the cockles! They are slightly parboiled, fresh and succulent. You can hardly get such a delicious cockles anywhere else unless you cook them yourself. Of course, the other famous feature of Sungei Road laksa is the gravy, it did not have the usual overwhelming coconut milk taste like many others, thus you can still taste the dried shrimp broth. Plus the unique fragrance that was inherited from the burning charcoal beneath the pot.

Big EL Lion is going to finish all two bowls of the Sungei Road Laksa by himself! If you are a guy, you should be able to easily finish eating two bowls, or else you should treat this as a tea break or snack as one $2 bowl of Sungei Road Laksa isn't really gonna fill your stomach.

Sungei Road laksa is one of the must try if you ever go to Singapore. Try it to feel the history and heritage the comes along with a simple bowl of laksa!
